Blah, blah, blah…

Have you ever been in a conversation or at a presentation and all you heard was, “blah, blah, blah…blah, blah…blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.â€Â It was like you were listening to the teacher’s voice in one of those Charlie Brown cartoons. What do you think when you hear this? Is it annoying? Insulting? A waste of your time?
This blah, blah, blah is often what we hear when we are not being present. So it is not that the speaker is annoying you or insulting you or wasting your time. YOU ARE!
Being present is up to us.  It is solely our responsibility. Each and every one of us gets to choose, either consciously or unconsciously, to be present with whatever we are doing. And when we notice we are not present. When the blah blahs kick in, we get to choose to stay that way or stop and get present.
It may sound strange but, at least when in a one on one or small group situation, we can stop things and ask for a short break so you can get present. Something as simple as saying, “Can you hold on a second?†(give yourself a deep breath) Then, “Thanks, I just found myself distracted there for a minute and needed to regroup.â€
I don’t know too many folks who would be offended to hear that you wanted to be present and pay close attention to what they are saying.
Give it a shot. It is better than a day filled with blah, blah, blah isn’t it?
