What if Life Were Simple?

I was watching the movie Forrest Gump last night and it got me thinking, why do we make things so complex? Life is really simple if we let it be.
Again and again throughout his life, Forrest takes the simple and direct approach to whatever he encounters. He does not spend his energy explaining or justifying his actions. Nor does he dwell on the “what ifs†that many of us find ourselves paralyzed by every day. He just does it and it usually works out.
He simply did whatever was the next step and then went from there. This is a choice we all have everyday.
How different would your life be if you simply did the next step and then went from there?
You would likely appear “odd†to those around you. But all “odd†means is that you are different from what is usual or expected. As you can see this is not bad it is just different. After all, everything was different at first until it became common.
Remember, Forrest’s simple way of approaching life took him places most of us only dream of. He met the President of the United States three different times. Something most of us would consider extraordinary, Forrest considered so common place it was a bit annoying to have to go see the President “again.â€
I know this is a story of fiction, but is it really? Maybe it is a window into what is possible if we get out of our own way, stopped making things so complex and just took whatever the next step is that is in front of us and then went from there.
Give it a shot. What have you got to loose? Frustration, stagnation, ineffectiveness, struggle. I would happily give those up for a simple, effective and rewarding life.
Start small and give it a try. See what happens and let me know. I would love to hear your adventures in simplicity.
