During this past year I’ve had three instances of car trouble: a blowout on a freeway, a bunch of blown fuses and an out-of-gas situation. They all happened while I was driving other people’s cars, which for some reason makes it worse on an emotional level. And on a practical level as well, what with the fact that I carry things like a jack and extra fuses in my own car, and know enough not to park on a steep incline with less than a gallon of fuel.

Each time, when these things happened, I was disgusted with the way people didn’t bother to help. I was stuck on the side of the freeway hoping my friend’s roadside service would show, just watching tow trucks cruise past me. The people at the gas stations where I asked for a gas can told me that they couldn’t lend them out “for safety reasons,” but that I could buy a really crappy one-gallon can, with no cap, for $15. It was enough to make me say stuff like “this country is going to hell in a handbasket,” which I actually said.

But you know who came to my rescue all three times? Immigrants. Mexican immigrants. None of them spoke any English. (more…)

I love this photo of Nature smiling at us in two different ways.  Pay attention and notice how Nature is smiling at you today.  I know she is.

You Can’t Give What You Don’t Have

Being yourself and sharing your gifts can be like turning on a light in poorly lit room full of people.  As the daylight fades and the light in the room diminishes, some people do not care that there is less light, some people are happy the light is fading and others are disappointed that it is getting darker and harder to see.  When you walk in, radiating your brilliance it is like turning on the lights.

To those who did not care that the light was going away, this additional light does not matter.  They are fine either way.  To those who were excited about the diminishing light they are annoyed.  They moan and complain. (more…)

People Are Driving Me Crazy!

Posted on 25. May, 2010 by in The Goo Blog

It feels like I have no patients anymore.  I seem to be frustrated and angry at everyone.  Seriously!  It seems like everyone I meet, no not really the folks I meet and speak with, more the people I encounter driving, riding my bike, walking down the sidewalk, in the aisle at the store.  Yeah, those non-descript knuckleheads are the people that are driving me nuts.

It is like nothing they do is right.  They are moving too slow or blocking my way or making dumb decisions.  How inconsiderate can these people be?  I feel like I am in a world filled with idiots. (more…)

The Creek

I was working beside Boulder Creek today.  Being around the creek on one of the first warm days of Spring is always so much fun.  People walking, running and biking on the creek path, tubers floating by, dogs playing in the water.  I love it.

And I was reminded that the water doesn’t care what you do with it.  It just keeps rolling on.

A duck swam by and showed its ability in allowing the water to support it and take what it is given as it masterfully negotiated the rapids.  The big golden retriever just down stream from me takes a different approach as he bounds into the water in pursuit of the latest stick it has fallen totally in love with.  Though he does not have the grace of the duck he still finds a way to enjoy the rushing water. The Greatest Is Love

Posted on 13. May, 2010 by in The Goo Blog

I recently received this in an email from one of my mentors – Mary Morrissey – and I wanted to share it with you all.  Enjoy

The apostle Paul said that there are three things that last forever: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of them all is love. Then he said put love first.

Having hope and having faith are like keys that unlock the door to our awareness of love’s presence. The interesting thing about love is that love will never be more present for us than it is right now, but we can become more aware of it. When our heart is filled with faith and our mind is focused on hope, the awareness of love’s presence absolutely amplifies.

Love is not only with us but a companion to walk with in our day. I wish you a wonderful faith, hope and love filled day.

I See You

A line in the movie Avatar that became kind of a catch phrase, and the title of the film’s theme song is “I see you.”  It is a way the indigenous characters in the film verbalize an intense connection.

As I left the theater after watching this film I heard people talking about this line and the scene it was in more than anything else other than the groovy 3-D effects.  And I could feel it during the film.  There was a noticeable change in the energy in the theater during this scene.  But why?

Being seen would appear to be a very common occurrence in our day-to-day lives.  Is it? (more…)

Calm Is Not Boring

Posted on 21. Apr, 2010 by in The Goo Blog

I know people that think calm equals boring.  That being calm is like going through life in neutral.

As you heard on my radio show this week from life-saving expert Diane Sieg, calm stands for:  Clarity, Awareness, Love and Meaning.  Sounds pretty good huh?

Take a minute and apply these words to the things you will be doing today.  Imagine feeling clarity in all your activities. (more…)

The Greatest Gift Ever!

When you see a butterfly do you see the caterpillar that it was?  When you see a caterpillar, do you see the butterfly it will be?

Whether you do or not really makes no difference.  Because the butterfly and the caterpillar are what they are, no matter what you think.

The way you can most honor the butterfly, the caterpillar or anything else is to see it for what it is in present time.  Recognize the greatness that it is right now.  Not what it was in the past or what it has the potential to be in the future. (more…)

You Can’t Win If You Don’t Play

Posted on 01. Apr, 2010 by in The Goo Blog

I was talking with a friend the other day when the conversation turned to how they used to lack motivation for everything, even change.  But now they were ready to change.  Actually they were committed to changing.  Enough was enough.

That is when it hit me.  Making a commitment to change and acting on it is like playing a lottery that no one else knows about. (more…)
